About the Journal

Journal of Applied and Natural Sciences (JANAS) is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the College of Science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru (FUAZ), Nigeria. Established to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application, JANAS serves as a credible platform for the dissemination of innovative research and critical reviews that address both local and global challenges.

Focus and Scope
JANAS covers a broad spectrum of research in the applied and natural sciences, welcoming submissions in, but not limited to, the following thematic areas:

  • Natural and Environmental Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and ICT, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Environmental Management, Climate Change Studies, and Biodiversity Conservation.

  • Applied Sciences: Industrial applications of scientific principles, including Polymer Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Technological Advancements relevant to development.

Open Access Policy
JANAS is committed to the principles of open science. All articles are published under a Open Access model, meaning they are freely available to read, download, and share immediately upon publication, the journal charge submission and Article Processing Charges (APC). This is to ensures that knowledge is accessible to a global audience of researchers, policymakers, industry professionals, and students without financial barriers.

Peer Review Process
To maintain high academic standards, all submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Manuscripts are initially screened by the editorial team for scope and compliance, then assigned to at least two independent, expert reviewers. This process, managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, ensures impartiality, rigor, and a typical turnaround of 4-6 weeks for the initial review.

Publication Ethics
JANAS strictly adheres to the guidelines set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism, data fabrication, and other unethical practices. All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin or iThenticate), with a maximum similarity index of 15%. Studies involving human or animal subjects must include an ethics approval statement.

Upon acceptance, authors retain the copyright of their work. Articles are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) License, which permits others to share and adapt the material, provided appropriate credit is given and the use is for non-commercial purposes.

History
JANAS was founded in 2025 by the College of Science, Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, to address the critical need for a high-quality, multidisciplinary scientific publication outlet in Nigeria and the broader African region. The journal aims to elevate the visibility of research from FUAZ and its partners while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
